One of my closest friends is getting married next month and next Tuesday I’ll be hosting a Premarital Teleseminar (don’t forget to sign-up; its free!).  Needless to say I’m slightly obsessed with weddings right now.  One of my favorite new discoveries is the Inspiration Board- it’s a visual

representation of what you want your wedding to look like and feel like.

But what if we took this and applied it to the marriage instead of the wedding?  What if instead of a collection of ivory roses, fluffy organza,  and the perfect wedding cake, you were to collect words and images that evoked the kind of relationship you want to have?

So often in my work, couples focus on the practical, tangible stuff.  There relationship becomes about what they both think, instead of what they feel.  One of the reasons that a visual tool, like the inspiration board, is so powerful is that it automatically engages different parts of the brain.   As the old adage goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Take a look at my inspiration board for Group Therapy Associates- what do you think it says about our practice?  I’d love to hear your comments and see what you come up with for your own inspiration boards (I used Picasa photo software, which is free from Google, but many wedding sites have other easy to use tools to create inspiration boards)
