5 words to describe you…

Compassionate / Witty / Down to Earth / Supportive / Trustworthy

What do you love most about working at GTA…

I love the environment and the group of professionals that make GTA work. No matter whom you come in contact with you feel welcomed and are made to feel like part of the family. It feels like a safe space where you can be yourself.

What should clients know about working with you…

There is no right or wrong way to do therapy. Come as you are and ready to work and we will figure out the rest together as we go. I am respectful of how hard it is to come into the counseling relationship and share your fears, shortcomings and private information. I will approach your care honestly and with a positive attitude.

Tweet that (you life story in 140 characters)…

I am a hard working counselor. A devoted daughter, sister, wife and friend. My role models are Audrey Hepburn & Beyonce and I try to live my life based on/with my 3 P’s – Patience, Passion and Purpose.

If I wasn’t doing this I’d be…

In my dreams a philanthropist, movie director and a musician of some type. More realistically I could see myself having dabbled in many areas, IT, a book editor, teacher or something creative.

The official story…

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I received my Bachelors in Psychology from Chowan University in North Carolina. I then received my MEd in Counseling and Development: Community Agency Counseling from George Mason University. Most recently in my educational journey I received a MA in Human Services Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family. I worked in the Mental Health field at Non-Profits and Community Agencies for almost a decade before becoming Licensed and moving into Private Practice.

I have primarily worked with adult populations and in the last three years have focused more on high school aged adolescents as well as couples. I enjoy utilizing mindfulness exercises and meditation in my counseling, however, I do my best to meet the client where they are. I attempt to pull from multiple orientations in order to come up with a plan that will help my clients most effectively. I enjoy working with young women, people of color, working professionals and parents seeking help with managing stress, regulating their emotions, grief, anxiety, depression, relationships and finding more balance in their lives among other issues.
