There are many excuses to skip date night…

no babysitter

too tired

nothing fun to do

no money

a hurricane is coming

While some of those excuses may be better than others, at GTA we say there is no good excuse to miss date night with the one you love.  Not even Irene!  So for our friends on the east coast who may decide to play it safe and stay indoors tonight {that would be our advice!}  we offer a few fun and creative ways to have date night at home.

Bake Something Sweet

They say the fastest way to the heart is through the stomach.. I don’t know if that’s true but it’s a great excuse to indulge in some  homemade treats.  If you love the petite scones at your favorite local coffee shop then this recipe from The Pioneer Woman is perfect.  Not so confident of your culinary skills?  Try some basic chocolate chip cookies- they’re {almost} fool-proof.

Play a Game Together

Go ahead, let that competitive nature come out to play.  Whether you break out a tried and true board game or go for the modern twist and play something on the Wii or Xbox- you can both have fun showing off your skills. And to keep the competition friendly try placing a flirtatious wager on the game… winner gets a bubble bath or that foot massage you’ve been begging for all week.

Make Something Cool

Apartment Therapy- Five fun DIY door matsUnleash your inner Martha Stewart or Bob Villa or Etsy crafter and make something. Try a fun door mat like this one from Apartment Therapy {you’re going to need a new one after all this rain!} or check sites like Casa Sugar and ReadyMade for other awesome project ideas.  It might sound corny but being creative together can be very romantic.

Enjoy Doing Nothing

Probably my husband’s top choice for date night… do nothing.  Well not exactly nothing… Snuggle on the couch or in the bed, watch a movie, or read a book.  However you like to relax- do it TOGETHER and relish in the fact that there’s a hurricane and so you cant possibly do anything else.
