The official story…
I am a native of Illinois but I have lived all over the country including Missouri, Massachusetts, California and Virginia. I have enjoyed experiencing these locations and the different cultures they offer.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois, Edwardsville, and a Master of Arts from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. While completing my graduate studies I gained experience working in a group home, a domestic violence shelter, and community mental health. However, it wasn’t until I worked in the UMass counseling center that I found my true passion, working with young adults.
After earning my Master’s degree I continued to work with young adults and adolescents in community mental health. Specifically, I provided crisis-counseling services to individuals and families experiencing psychiatric emergencies. I have assisted young adults, adolescents, and families dealing with, but not limited to, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, severe trauma, and self-harm.
I am primarily a strengths-based therapist but I use a variety of therapeutic orientations depending on the client and the nature of the issue. I believe both hope and the therapeutic relationship are the most important elements of the therapeutic process.
My professional areas of interest include life transitions, interpersonal difficulties, career and academic counseling, depression, stress and anxiety, self-esteem, trauma and grief counseling.
