The official Story….
My journey has been heavily informed by my experiences growing up as a deaf individual. Engaging those around me and forming meaningful connections proved difficult due to challenges in understanding what was being said and shared, especially because I spent most of my childhood reading lips. I did learn to communicate via American Sign Language in high school when I also obtained cochlear implants. Because of those natural barriers, when I did have the opportunity to meaningfully interact with someone, whether at school, church, or otherwise, I treasured it! This impacted my understanding of how meaningful connections are created and maintained, and how they influence and enrich our lives. Because of these experiences, I approach therapy with a firm belief in an individual’s right to be actors in their own journey and shape their own stories.
“Small things were important. Seconds are small things, and if you heaped enough of those on top of one another, they became a man’s life” – Robert Jordan
I graduated from Virginia Tech in Falls Church, Virginia with a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. My training is rooted in systemic thinking. I have worked in a variety of therapeutic settings including community-based centers such as the Center for Family Services, or the Vet Center in D.C. where I have worked with families, couples, and individuals from a variety of backgrounds. In addition to working with families with mixed-hearing abilities, I enjoy working with families and couples across a variety of issues as well as with adolescents.
