What is your name and what do you do around here?

I’m Esther Boykin and what I do around here probably can’t fit on this page but in general I’m the CEO and Owner of GTA and Therapy Is Not A Dirty Word and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (the official term for a therapist who specializes in relationships of all kinds… including the one with yourself so yes I see individuals)

5 words that describe you?

Nurturing / Optimistic / Loyal / Driven / Bossy {in a good way}

What do you love most about your job here at GTA?

I love the creativity and connection I find through my work as both a therapist and as a CEO.  Leading a team of thearpists, growing a work environment that supports them and our mission to imporve mental health access feeds my soul in a way that I think few of us get to experience through our professional life. I’m tremendously grateful for the opportunity every day.

What should clients know about working with you?

I will meet you exactly where you are and truly invest the time and energy to understand who you are and what you want your life to be like.  Once we get on the same page I am going to challenge you every time we meet to push a little further and take risks in order to reach your goal.

Whether it’s a relationship issue, family conflict, or just figuring out how to move forward in your life, you can count on me to be your biggest cheerleader and your toughest coach all at the same time.

Tweet that (your life story in 140 characters)

All about love in action, always looking for the silver lining, firmly committed to seeing the potential in everyone & everything.

If I wasn’t doing this, I’d be…

A bookstore owner, tv show host, event planner, and interior designer who spends her free time daydreaming about becoming a therapist.

The official Story….

I am a psychotherapist who wants to live in a world where everyone believes that Therapy Is Not A Dirty Word.  As the CEO of Group Therapy Associates, I work every day to make mental health accessible, innovative, and culturally relevant for all people.  My role as the head of this practice is deeply tied to my beliefs about therapy and I am committed to providing a supportive work environment where compassionate and dedicated therapists can thrive with peer support and the space to be creative and cutting edge in their approach to therapy.

My own clinical work is rooted in the belief that good mental health begins with compassion and awareness. My therapy approach incorporates a variety of theoretical perspectives in an effort to fully understand each person’s unique struggles. This then drives the development of a thoughtful and comprehensive plan for change to help each person create meaningful connections in their lives.

In 2017 I launched Therapy Is Not A Dirty Word, a brand new division of GTA designed to bring mental health conversation outside the traditional office setting and into the community through media, webinars, social events, and retreats. In addition to my roles as  a licensed marriage & family therapist and CEO, I’ve also served as an adjunct professor at Virginia Tech teaching the business of therapy, authored two books on relationships, and am a sought-after relationship and mental health expert.  I was recently named a top 21 relationship expert to follow by Cosmopolitan magazine and has appeared on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Potomac, HuffPost, Good Morning Washington, the Wall Street Journal, Coveteur, and a myriad of other media outlets
