Payment Options for Psychotherapy

Payment is due at the time of service and future appointments may be postponed if you have an unpaid balance that exceeds $200. This applies to both self-pay and insured clients.

Insurance

Our therapists participate in-network with most CareFirst insurance plans and Anthem Healthkeepers Plus (only Healthkeepers Plus). Please be sure to verify your benefits prior to your first appointment to inquire about your copay, co-insurance, and/or deductibles that may apply. You may call our office with assistance in verifying benefits for in and out of network services. Most insurance plans cover teletherapy however we strongly encourage you to contact your insurance provider to clarify your specific coverage.

Please note that we have access to the same information from your insurance company that you do.  While we do our best to help you in verifying benefits, it is your responsibility to confirm that your insurance pays for your services and if they don’t we will send you an invoice for any unpaid amount.

If you make changes to your insurance coverage, please let our office staff and your therapist know as soon as possible.  Changes to coverage, even with the same provider, can result in nonpayment by insurance and lead to unexpected bills.  The sooner you inform us, the more effectively we can work with you to ensure payments are paid.

{*Not all therapists on staff participate with all insurance plans; our intake coordinator will help match you with the best therapist for your personal & financial needs.}

Questions to Ask Your Insurance Company

One of our goals is to empower you to talk with your insurance company about your coverage.  As the subscriber paying the premium, we believe you have a right to clear and easily understood information about what and how they cover all of your health care needs.

Below are questions specific to understanding your mental health coverage (often called “behavioral health”) both In-Network and Out-of-Network.

  1. What are my in-network and out-of-network (OON) benefits for outpatient mental health?
  2. Do I have a deductible? When does it apply and what is my deductible amount?
  3. What percentage am I responsible for? Do I pay a copay, co-insurance, or both?
  4. What is the timeline for reimbursement?

Here’s some information your insurance carrier may ask you when you call:

  • Provider: Group Therapy Associates
  • NPI ID#: 1215163506
  • Service type: Mental health outpatient services
  • Place of Service: Telehealth or Outpatient Office

*please note that diagnostic codes and CPT codes can’t be provided until after your session(s)*

Self-Pay

We accept American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa (including FSA/HSA debit cards) for services. For those clients who prefer not to use insurance or whose plans we are not preferred providers of, we are happy to provide a monthly statement and superbill. You can use this monthly statement to submit to your insurance for out of network benefits, health savings or flex spending account for reimbursement.

The Fine Print on Pre-Paid Packages

We try to keep it simple, but for good, well-thought-out reasons we had to establish a few rules:

Intake session are strongly encouraged.

The intake is an in-depth assessment of current functioning, clinical assessment and gives your therapist the information needed to assist you in choosing an appropriate number of sessions to get started.

We want all of our clients to get what’s best for them and for that reason; pre-paid packages can be refunded after the first appointment if you or your therapist believes that the package purchased is not an appropriate clinical fit for your current needs.

Pre-Paid sessions are non-refundable.

Please take this into consideration when choosing your plan. Our average client will work with us for approximately 16-20 sessions, however many will stay longer, and some will choose fewer sessions. We strongly encourage you to talk with your therapist about the best plan for you- our #1 goal is creating a treatment and payment plan that best addresses your needs.

If you are unsure, you can start by purchasing a 4-session package and upgrade before using up all the pre-paid sessions for additional savings.

As a reminder, there is a grace period between your first and second session during which time you can request a refund if you or your therapist believes that the package purchased is not a good fit for your clinical needs.

Payment for packages is to be made prior to all appointments.

It is your responsibility to make sure that you have paid your plan in full in order for the discounted rate to be applied to your scheduled therapy sessions.  Pre-paid package payment is required prior to all scheduled appointments or at the time of service.

8-session and 12 -session packages may be paid for in two or three monthly installments respectively. These payments are due at or before the first, fourth, and (if you purchase a 12 package) eighth appointment. Clients opting for a monthly payment plan will need to maintain an active credit card on file and it will be charged automatically.

Using pre-paid sessions for multiple clients.
Parents and couples , this is for you!  If you and your spouse or child(ren) are receiving services at Group Therapy Associates, you are free to use the pre-paid sessions to pay for all of your family’s sessions- even across multiple therapists .  You buy the sessions, you get to decide how to use them.
Changing Pre-Paid session plans.

You are free to upgrade your Pre-paid plans as long as you have at least one un-used session remaining.  When you do this, we will calculate your new discounted rate based on the total number of sessions you’ve purchased so far. This new discount rate will apply to all of your future appointments.

For example, if you pay for 4 sessions initially  and decide during your 3rd session to upgrade to an 8 session package, sessions 3-8 will be billed at the lower 8 sessions package rate.  Don’t worry, our administrative staff is on hand to answer questions and do the math!
